Localization of odors can be learned.

چکیده
Chemicals selectively stimulating the olfactory nerve typically cannot be localized in a lateralization task. Purpose of this study was to investigate whether the ability of subjects to localize an olfactory stimulus delivered passively to 1 of the 2 nostrils would improve under training. Fifty-two young, normosmic women divided in 2 groups participated. One group performed olfactory lateralization training, whereas the other group performed cognitive tasks. Results showed that only subjects performing lateralization training significantly improved in their ability to lateralize olfactory stimuli compared with subjects who did not undergo such training.

Walking patterns induced by learned odors in the honeybee, Apis mellifera L.
The odor localization strategy induced by odors learned via differential conditioning of the proboscis extension response was investigated in honeybees. In response to reward-associated but not non-reward-associated odors, learners walked longer paths than non-learners and control bees. When orange odor reward association was learned, the path length and the body turn angles were small during o...
متن کاملAssociative learning and memory duration of Trichogramma brassicae
Learning ability and memory duration are two inseparable factors which can increase theefficiency of a living organism during its lifetime. Trichgramma brassice Bezdenko (Hym.:Trichogrammatidae) is a biological control agent widely used against different pest species. This research was conducted to study the olfactory associative learning ability and memoryduration of T. brassicae under laborato...
متن کاملExperience modifies olfactory acuity: acetylcholine-dependent learning decreases behavioral generalization between similar odorants.
Perceptual learning has been demonstrated in several thalamocortical sensory systems wherein experience enhances sensory acuity for trained stimuli. This perceptual learning is believed to be dependent on changes in sensory cortical receptive fields. Sensory experience and learning also modifies receptive fields and neural response patterns in the mammalian olfactory system; however, to date th...
متن کاملAversive olfactory associative memory loses odor specificity over time
Avoiding associatively learned predictors of danger is crucial for survival. Aversive memories can, however, become counter-adaptive when they are overly generalized to harmless cues and contexts. In a fruit fly odor-electric shock associative memory paradigm, we found that learned avoidance lost its specificity for the trained odor and became general to novel odors within a day of training. We...
متن کاملOptimal Localization of Shopping Centers Using Metaheuristic Genetic Algorithm
Efficiency and effectiveness is of importance for selection and localization. There should be regular methodology for targeting in the market by several methods. There is a necessity to have clear study for selection. In the current research, it has been studied the optimal localization at shopping centers. If there is not accuracy and validity, there will be achieved negative results for these...
